Battle of Peine Day One – Move 3

1000-1100 4 August 1813

Table at the start of move 3

4th corps have been unable to advance due to the Poor Card

There is too little space between the woods and hill for both 1st and 4th corps

Polish cavalry have arrived on the right flank to counter Prussian cavalry

Prince Blucher (Average) – 4CP

Blucher moves to join 1st corps

Changes their orders from Move to Engage

1st corps on the right, 4th corps on the left

General Yorck (Gifted) – 1st Prussian corps - Move – 7CP

Artillery advance 6” and unlimber

2nd and 6th brigades advance onto hill on the right

3rd brigade advances 12”

Poor Card

XIII French corps

General Poniatowski (Poor) - XIII French corps – Hold – 5CP

Poniatowski must change his orders from Hold to Halt due to Poor Card

He brings his cavalry into line on the right

He also orders 4th brigade to prepare to move out of Peine

General Tauentzien (Poor) – 4th Prussian corps - Engage – 4CP

Artillery limber and move 4” to create a grand battery

16th brigade form square to protect the gunners

15th brigade advance 6”

Game Notes

Because there is no French CinC on the table, the corps commander may change his orders. For a Poor Commander this will take 3CP, and he is still vulnerable to the Poor Card.

Due to the limited space the Prussians have problems avoiding their guns being masked as the infantry advance. To overcome this 1st corps will advance along the hill and 4th corps well to the left.
