Second Wolfsburg – Move 9

1600-1700 30 July 1813

Table at the start of move

VI French corps have moved to the west of Wolfsburg

1st Prussian corps are trying to move to the east of the town, but cavalry and infantry are pinned by French cavalry

V French corps are about to enter the table from the north

4th Prussian corps are about to enter the t able from the south

Prince Blucher will arrive with 4th corps

Marshal Davout will arrive with V corps.

V French have their artillery near the rear of the column, which will cause delay in deployment.

Marmont is moving his corps to the left of Wolfsburg

This is in preparation for the arrival of 4th Prussian corps from Helmstedt

He has left 1st brigade in east Wolfsburg to cover this redeployment

Both commanders are aware how important it is to take Wolfsburg without delay

The dash for the town has made it difficult to deploy either side

Both are now on Engage orders, so they can enter and fight for the town.

The buildings are removed to allow fighting inside town

Both commanders have sent their elite brigade to take east Wolfsburg

The French have a slight advantage as they are better skirmishers

Despite this the Prussians win the first round of skirmish

The French make their morale

This French casualty means that both brigades require a 5 or 6 on 1D6 for a hit


Notes on Game

On Engage orders infantry can only skirmish within a town

This is a slow process depending on a good dice

On Attack orders there is a quicker result, but also the risk of losing

1st Prussian corps has started to deploy

Cavalry to the left and artillery to the right

Infantry have reached the right hand town section

VI French corps have used all of their CP to move closer to the town

They have deployed their cavalry to counter Prussian cavalry.

Notes on Game

French take advantage of moving first to make multiple moves towards town.

This gains a march on the Prussians, who are unable to use multiple moves during their turn because enemy are within 16”

Both commanders have had to change their orders from Move to Engage so that they can enter the town and fight the enemy.
