Second Wolfsburg – Move 4

1100-1200 30 July 1813

Table at the start of move 4

Both commanders are aware how important it is to take Wolfsburg without delay

The dash for the town has made it difficult to deploy either side

Both are now on Engage orders, so they can enter and fight for the town.

1st Prussian corps

General Yorck (Gifted) – 7CP – Engage

Artillery fire on artillery (7) and miss

Manhandle guns forward 2” into close range

Yorck moves 12” to command range of supports

3 infantry advance 8” towards artillery

Yorck returns to command range of town and artillery

Skirmish 1 Prussian (5) and 21 French (2)

21 French test morale for casualty (5) make morale

VI French corps

Marshal Marmont (Average) – 6CP - Engage

Artillery fire close range on enemy guns (7) and miss

22 infantry move 8” to west Wolfsburg

23 infantry move 8” towards town

24 infantry move 8” towards town

Marmont moves to centre of corps

Skirmish 21 French (4) and 1 Prussian (4), both miss

Battle for Wolfsburg

The buildings are removed to allow fighting inside town

Both commanders have sent their elite brigade to take east Wolfsburg

The French have a slight advantage as they are better skirmishers

Despite this the Prussians win the first round of skirmish

The French make their morale

This French casualty means that both brigades require a 5 or 6 on 1D6 for a hit

Notes on Game

On Engage orders infantry can only skirmish within a town

This is a slow process depending on a good dice

On Attack orders there is a quicker result, but also the risk of losing

Rule 11 covers skirmish in a town

Rule 10 covers hand to hand combat in a town
